Vanity

Vain attempts to explain my feelings
Must feel hollow when desire driven
When all the creation beauty given
I get lost in just one before my eyes
Not by reason or cause my motive
Animal passion my banal drive
Beauty driven to stay alive
Nothing but myself to give
What a worthless gift
A fools’ sad lust
No gold jewellery or trust
To give your heart a lift
If I had not heard you speak
Or seen how you care
Or caught your smile at my stare
I would have remained silently weak
So if desire and need
Could distract you a moment
And the truth of your thoughts lent
Perhaps my hopes to fed
And go beyond my desire
To the truths left unsaid
Locked in the back of my head
No longer a confused mire
