Artist's Description

The Jeita Grotto is a spectacular cave system in the Nahr al-Kalb valley, 11 miles north of Beirut. The upper section of caves (from this shot) house the world’s largest stalactite, and are accessed through a tunnel created to enable access without disturbing the natural landscape.

The lower cave is accessible only by boat since it channels an underground river that provides fresh drinking water to over a million Lebanese.

The Jeita Grotto is not only a Lebanese national symbol, but was a finalist for the New 7 Wonders of the World competition, and absolutely deserved its recognition.
