Clunes, Victoria.

(As quoted from a tourist brochure)
This is where the first payable gold deposit was found. The confirmation of the find in 1851 started the rush to the rich deposits at Clunes and what was to become the Ballarat Goldfields.

It is claimed in local tourist brochures that Clunes is the most original and intact of Victoria’s gold towns. After travelling through the local area for two weeks it is hard to argue against that claim.

The Post Office is no longer in active service, however the Town Hall still is. That is with the exception of the Police Court facilities.
