Artist's Description

Taken whilst on a Mike Ball live aboard dive trip which included this site, the Yongala shipwreck. The two main fish are commonly known as Moses Perch.

The SS Yongala sank off Cape Bowling Green on 23rd March 1911. It was travelling from Melbourne to Cairns when she encountered a cyclone and sank without a track, somewhere south of Townsville. 122 people lost their lives, and this was and still is considered one of the more tragic incidents in Australian maritime history. The wreck was discovered.in 1958 and since then has become a well regarded tourist diving location.
