Artist's Description

On the 7th of February 2009 a bushfire worked its way through parts of Peats Ridge. The next day when the fire was under control and making it’s last gasp efforts the Wife and I grabbed our cameras and went for a drive. We took some pictures of the aftermath and returned with this small branch. This branch had already taken advantage of the fire to release it’s seeds, and even after the fire the seed pod just offered an amazing insight. What with blackened coverings the pod still retained it’s timber core, still moist and colourful.

I believe this is either a Hakea Gibbosa (common name of Hairy Hakea) or a Hakea Bakeriana (no common name).
