Bird Fly, Fly Away

Can a bird fly over the country
And not feel home sick;

Can a bird go over miles
And still not find a home;

Because if I was a bird I would be this,
Home sick for what I don’t know,
In love with what I don’t know,
And believing in a greener pasture,
Fatter worms,
To be lighter,
Faster;

But a home,
A nest,
In a high gum tree,
Is not for me,
I will graze the skies till I can no more,
Looking for that one place that I can’t find anymore;

When my eyes close for a quick nap,
They see,
They feel,
That home waiting,
They hear the family calling,
And when I wake up I have a new found energy,
I need to find that home,
That resting place,
Before I loose my energy;

Then that one day I was skimming in the sky,
Head darting from side to side,
When a I saw that one place come towards me,
The light shone so vividly,
And I saw that nest,
That high gum tree,
It was calling me home,
Finally.

Artist's Description

I was watching birds as they flew around from tree to tree. You wonder if they are trying to find the one perfect tree.
