Artist's Description

Rhinos are a favourite among poachers for their horns (which is illegal, of course, but still happens a fair amount throughout Africa and the rest of the world). Modern African poachers generally operate in groups of 3: 1 man to carry and use the gun, one man to saw off the rhino’s horn, and a third man to carry other supplies and act as a decoy. The 3rd man is often a newbie and as such expendable: the other two will leave him behind to face police if they are caught. With this method the two skilful poachers remain free, active and rich. While the white rhino is facing heavy losses due to poaching, it is the black rhino that is most threatened by extinction. This is in part because the black rhino is more territorial and therefore more prone to charging its enemies whereas the white rhino is relaxed and avoids most conflict and threats.
