Artist's Description

First time I’ve ever had a flammingo as my subject….living in the center of the US in NE Kansas, we don’t get to see many unless at a zoo or tropical exotic garden.
This lovely bird was created using suede and leather and formed on the lid of a box made from leather rings stacked together.
I soooo enjoyed designing this amazing bird……..from all the pinks and oranges to the greens to the over-all pattern. It was a pure joy to make and I was very exicited to gift it to the lovely lady I gave it to for Christmas.
I get my supplies from a local leather shop….these are the discards that they no longer need. I also shop the thrift stores, mainly for the colored suedes but am sometimes lucky to find embroidered suedes as well. Besides the leather and suede, rubber cement and lacquer was also used to hold these all together and help keep them beautiful.
A first-time design, pattern and over-all work……..photographed on my front porch on a small hay bale with my favorite all-time pocket camera, my Olympus IR-500 which is about to see it’s very last days (tape and rubber bands are just not holding it together as it once did).
