Artist's Description

One of my favorite members of the polypore family of fungi…..these are commonly called Shiney Cinnamon Polypores…….scientifically they’re known as Coltricia cinnamomea. Often found on hiking trails….but usually in single or doubles…not in clusters like this!
I don’t always hike this road but decided to this day…it’s nice and rural so no worries of tons of idiot drivers…and it’s not paved so even better.
I was flopped out on it in mosquito infested 98degree temps with a humidity level that almost left me flattened to get a photo of a double cluster…..but then noticed THIS cluster that was hiding under near-by greenage.
Fabulous! First time ever seeing them grouped so perfectly. The velvety tops often are hard to photograph as the reddish colors hate my camera and the shiney surfaces are often hard to catch all at once in the light. I was willing to get bit by ever mosquito to get at least one photo though.
