Artist's Description

A beautiful magestic Double-crested Cormerant lies dead on a farm field where it and 6 American Coots and 2 large-mouth bass were tossed after a fit of what seems to me useless and disgusting anger.
Some human at a pond or lake shot, caught, killed these animals…..slitting the Cormerants neck and twisting the heads off the Coots (1 was still attached)….of the fish 1 had eggs coming out.
I’m not sure what leads humankind to senselessly kill animals…especially those that do no harm to humans in any way that I can comprehend.
This bird is a protected species in my area of NE Kansas.
I still shake with anger of this moment.
After the irritated cop came and got his photos that he’ll probably just delete (he felt it was all a waste of time, mostly his), I moved the wing to check if there were any kind of tags on the bird…and a baby fish fell out of it’s wing feathers.
My guess…is that whoever killed them did so because they feel these birds are eating ‘their’ fish. I’ve seen fishermen kill turtles for this same reason.
I know this isn’t the typical PRETTY image. Sometimes we need to see the ugly to comprehend that it’s there.
