Artist's Description

Hi guys,
This is an image that was taken just over a month ago of my oldest and beautiful hen Gertie.
She passed away this morning, and I am devastated. She was the grand old age of 12 years old, and a more beautiful and lovely hen I could not have been more proud of taking care of and giving her a home. She was a rescued pet, along with four others who sadly were killed by the fox.
Last year she fought off a fox attack and about seven/eight years ago when we lost five of our hens to another fox attack, she escaped that and hid in the long grasses.
She mothered the new hens that came into our care and she was right bossy sometimes but they all got on well. Now I am just left with three.
For those who do not love animals I do not expect you to understand, but they become part of the family….yes…even hens, and she has been buried next to our dog Holly and our cat Aphra.
Now she is at peace. Rest In Peace Gertie and I know that you no long suffer. We will all miss your little ‘tweet tweet’ sound you used to make standing on the step for seeds or when we were letting you all out for the morning.
