depression

I feel the dark clouds
lower, settling upon the earth
where they don’t belong
Arrived from nowhere
now here
omnipresent, potent
A portent of evil, of dread
like the clouds that cover the Sun
faster than you can say why
I become angry, sullen
guilty, obsessed
I avoid the black plague
I evade its clutches
but it surrounds me
faster than you can say why
I don’t try to run anymore
it just lingers
I am forced to sort through
an infinite pile of needles
in an infinite stack
Analysing, categorizing, placing
amidst confusion
faster than you can say why
It is unpleasant
and always arrives when I least want it to
but it arrives
faster than I can say why

depression
