Desert

The land is so dry
Cracks deep within
Reflect the soul of many
Broken hearts dry like desert plains
Rain is needed like healing
Yet for so long no one has seen
We have forgotten
The sweet smell it brings
Many pray but none have been answered
People are desperate, death draws near
Men are giving up, woman cry
We see no end so how can we go on
But wait…the head of a child lifts
He sees the cloud draw near
The dusty sweet smell fills his senses
And he runs yelling in delight
Many look to see
As deep thunder reverberates across the land
And hope is found again
We remember as small drops fall from the heavens
Slowly but surely the rain comes
Filling up our rivers
Filling up our hearts, healing the cracks
That have been there for so long
Australians smile once more
As we continue with the blessing from above.
