A protest against the Institute of Medicine’s proposed new name for myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; “Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease.” SEID is universally hated among ME/CFS sufferers because its new diagnostic criteria only include four symptoms which are present in almost every disease known to man. The IOM also spent about a year and a million dollars of what is a very little-known and poorly-funded disease. If the new name and criteria become the norm, we have no hope of ever finding a cause or cure with definitions so vague, anyone with any disease could qualify for it.
And as an ME patient myself, I can’t let this go unchallenged.
