MY DADDY, MY HERO

Daddy I look at old pictures and you were so young.
You were health, happy and always on the go.

What time has done to you is ever so dad.
Your heart is failing; your mind is here and there.
You shuffle your feet and your hearing is gone.

You tell me you were only a cook in the Army.
But with three bronze stars and two purple hearts,
And three campaign medals.
Daddy my daddy you were more than a cook.
A hero is what you are.

You’ve never talked much of WWII
I bet you carry many memories.
Good to the bad you’ve bundled up inside.

Keep them close daddy.
You have your reasons
It still doesn’t change the truth.

Daddy, my daddy, my hero.
I love you now and forever
My hero always.
