Lights, Camera, Still Shots, and Action

“Do you see what I see?”

Art through a camera’s lens: A wide range of subjects and methods of photography, and lighting. From panoramic shots, to macro photography. Digital and Traditional art.

Many years ago, I was given a novelty camera for my 8th birthday. To my surprise it actually took pictures! Not great ones, but enough to get me started. From there I learned how to develop both film and prints.(Preferred B&W for this, as amber or red lights could be used) I will always have a special place in my heart for B&W photography. It’s easier to get a spectacular and vivid color image, but it’s a bit trickier to get an eye catching B&W. Even with the age of digital imaging, I tend to take photographs as if they are still film and I am on a tight budget. It tends to make me wait for that just right shot.

I took my love of photography and put it to use, and got a graphic arts degree. My talents of drawing, painting and layouts came in handy when we were assigned projects that had to be designed from scratch.

I am originally from the US, and moved to the land of roos and wallabies in 2000.

I tend to have a strange eye when it comes to selecting photographic subjects, finding beauty in some rather different subjects. A friend of mine told me I was a “Zen photographer”, and yes, I took it as a compliment.

And the wheel turns

I have had 5 solid years of medical issues that have kept me sidelined most of the time. I breaks my heart every time I have to dust, rather than use, my camera gear. / In 2017, I had a total knee replacement, and was fast tracking my recovery. I was doing great… right until 5 months into rehab, a L plater T-boned us on the passenger side at speed. Yes, I was on the passenger side. Both my …

Few and far between

I haven’t been posting that many photos, nor have I been active much in the forums, for almost two years. It’s been a a rough couple of years. I had a mass removed from my back, and the incision took 9 months to heal. After that, I had a tripping accident, shredding the cartilage and meniscus in my right knee. Tried synovial treatments, but they didn’t work, so had to have a t…

Went to a Canon event about the Canon 5DS and 5DSr

I brought a list of questions to ask about the 5DS and 5dsr… and oddly enough, it’s not something I want or need. Nice piece of hardware, but for what I do, not of any use. / Larger megapixel sensor means it’s more sensitive to camera vibration. Since most of what I do isn’t studio, or landscapes or other tripod mounted shots (photographing birds, wildlife, street) tracki…

Live and Learn, I guess

One day after I requested my images be reinstated as UBISOFT never filed any charges in the 14 days, and I had proven that my images predate their game, so couldn’t be derivitave of their game, and UBISOFT doesn’t own the copyright to the words/phrase “Assassin’s Guild Meeting”, the three photos that received a takedown notice from UBISOFT have been reinstated. For …
