And the wheel turns

I have had 5 solid years of medical issues that have kept me sidelined most of the time. I breaks my heart every time I have to dust, rather than use, my camera gear.

In 2017, I had a total knee replacement, and was fast tracking my recovery. I was doing great… right until 5 months into rehab, a L plater T-boned us on the passenger side at speed. Yes, I was on the passenger side. Both my knees were shoved into the dashboard, but at the last second, I lifted my right leg/knee up, to instinctively protect the knee replacement. Luckily, the make and model of our car had a passenger side airbag, so my head didn’t go through the passenger window, just bounced off of the window.

So, it might not seem like luck, but I was lucky. I had a concussion, full body whiplash, bruises and abrasion, but I was back to square one for knee rehab. I pushed it, until I regained some semblance of what I was prior to the accident… and then I came down with a cold, which morphed into pneumonia. Took a month to recover.

Things seemed to be going ok, and then I had this painful episode which I thought was just a cramp in my right side/leg/arm. Until it happened again, twice in one day. Then 4 times. And then it finally sent me to the ER when they just kept coming. ER doctor told me, not cramps, seizures. 4 days in the hospital, they managed to EEG and video them, MRI, Contrast MRI, and CT scan. No lesions, or growths. No signs of Alzheimer or Parkinsons. Diagnosis: hemidystonia on the right side.

It’s been a few months of trial and error with the right medications, but I haven’t had a seizure in a few months (had a few near misses, but recognized the symptoms and medication/mediation). Although I haven’t been as prolific as I was prior to all this mess, I have been getting out to take local bird photos. Getting back into the swing of things. :) And it’s helped.
