Alvaro Sánchez

Guatemala, Guatemala

Alvaro Sánchez is a self taught graphic artist based in Guatemala city, His work is based on what he likes to call digital collage using...

“The beauty of the fine art of Alvaro Sanchez is it’s connection to antecedents in modern and contemporary art drawing from influences as much musical as visual recalling and extrapolating upon the work of Dada and Surrealist progenitors as well as the best sentiments and manipulative properties of advertising or Pop Art sensibilities creating a new vocabulary situated somewhere between comedy and horror; the Beats and Punk meet 21st Century technology with a home grown raw, yet refined, finish."

Carl Heyward
American Artist

“There, between Alvaro Sanchez and his subconscious is a door that never closes, a space through which the visions, the images seep not only of dreams if not of wakefulness that reinforce a country like Guatemala that decadently beautiful territory…”
Vania Vargas
Guatemalan writer

“My work is a very personal vision about the fragility of humanness, that is to say a reflection on the human condition; it’s a celebration dedicated to our errors and disgraces and that we remember that we are imperfect and how finite we are. I want the person who sees my work to experience something similar to the sensation that you get when you listen to a punk song at full volume.”

Alvaro Sánchez is a self taught graphic artist based in Guatemala city, red wine drinker, and macchiato coffee addict, compulsive buyer of books and cd’s, cinema and music junkie. He is a regular contributor for on line and print art and design magazines from around the world.
