Artist's Description

One of the most imposing buildings on the the Port Arthur Historic Site is the"Penetentiary" built in 1843 as a mill and conveted to the penetentiary, the building housed over 480 convicts. Among many things it included a Catholic chapel, library and of course cells.

After the prison was closed the whole site sat abandoned and overgrown for many years until the 1960’s where the historical significance was realised and thankfully saved.
.
The Australian state of Tasmania can be reached with connecting flights from most Australian capital cities

I do recomend if you visit stay two days and do the ghost tour by lantern light
