black ink

Black ink. I love it it better than blue
I’ll write with it my note to you
it shall begin with a polite “could”
and end with love as all notes should.
I send with it a flattened rose
childish rhyme and bone dry prose
a silver string, a golden bell,
a feather I found next to a well.
Little things for you from me
the leaf of a lemon tree,
a bright red bead, a bit of glass,
a soldier small made out of brass.
All of these when you receive
think of me and do not grieve
for though I write from far away
I think of you every day.
In every new face that I see
I trace resemblances of thee.
Stand up tall and do not dread
the news that i will soon be dead.
for we will meet if you are brave
in the mists beyond the grave.
