WINGS

Chains, chains that hold me chains that bind me to the ground, you say you love me but your love merely ties me down. I stretch my wings and cast my eyes to the sky, but you pluck my feathers and strap my head in place. The winds call to me, rushing through my hair yearning me to sore. But you lock me away in a cave where the wind can’t reach me. You call me beloved and darling but and speak of love that is undying, but these words turn to iron chains around my wrists. You shackle me to the ground and say it’s to protect me. The world you say is scary, and flying to dangerous, so you lock me away in a cage behind bars of love. You bind me down and keep me in the dark, a warm safe darkness, but the light still shines out side my cage. It shines where I can’t reach it; still I feel its warmth on my cheek. You say you love me, and I know it’s true. You say you’re protecting me, and I know it’s true. Still the yearn to fly drives me and you know its true. We all have wings to fly, but you think it’s not true. You sit on the ground and you see others flying bye, you’ve forgotten about your wings, but I won’t let you make me forget about mine. I’ll break these chains and open this cage, and then ill soar. I’ll soar higher then anyone has ever soared. I’ll show you the sky you could only imagine before, and my wings will carry us both on the wind, till yours remember how to soar.
