Artist's Description

Native grasses of Australia.
Chorizandra enodis (The plant with the black pods)
Black bristlerush

Plant features
Growth form Perennial, spreading sedge with creeping rhizomes from which
new stems arise. It forms loose clumps to open colonies. 0.18- 1m high.
Leaves/stem The stems are 1-2mm wide and circular in cross section and up
to 1m in length. The leaves are similar to the stems. Stems and leaves are dark green except for the base, which is pale brown.
Flowers The inflorescence is near the top of stems. It is circular in shape and 8-15mm in diameter. The flowers are purple/brown/black and occur from Jul – Nov.
Distribution
A common wetland species from north of Geraldton to east of Esperance and into the western and southern parts of the Avon catchment. Also found in other
southern states.
