Artist's Description

The other day, well Sunday actually, I was invited to watch a band member play at a little country soiree. Even though it wasn’t evening, that is how I imagined it, country, laid back and relaxing. However, along the way I find out it is going to be more of a shindig than a soiree, and added to this, most of the music provided would be C&W ………………. so, o.k. I think, me being more of a Nick Cave type fan as some of your would know.

Finally we arrive at quite a secluded location between Ballarat and Geelong. If you can imagine, the building resembled a huge barn/workshop with several timber rooms added over the years, and boy was there lots of bootscooting, yahooing, yeeheeing, beer swilling and even stronger beverages being consumed of course. Also, I was the only woman dressed all in black, whom nobody had ever met before so, I sort of stood out in the crowd and felt extremely obvious……………..mutter, mutter, mutter – ’whose that bird with “our” drummer………………..

Eventaully I was introduced to these two lovely people, Murray and Jess, the proprietors of “Tombstone Country”, so named because it was located across the road from a cemetery, who have run the premises for about thirteen years or so. They were very hospitable and Murray insisted I couldn’t leave without indulging in a couple of Cowboys – shots that is. So, trying to be polite as I could, I drank a couple but declined after Murry offered me the fourth glass. But, in keeping with country hospitality, Murray insisted that I finish off the bottle, while Jess, kept insisting that Murray leave me alone. It was a sort of a show down if you know what I mean

As well as being generous hosts, they also raise quite a bit of money for charity and organize to transport patrons who would otherwise be stuck at home by bus. I must admit though, a good time was had by all including myself. They played Johnny Cash, one of my favourites, and who knows, I may even get used to Tammy and Dolly one day.

BTW, there is a New Years Eve bash at Tombstone Country, featuring the Tombstone Allstars. Entrance fee and supper is only $20 and if you don’t feel like driving home you can camp there overnight and have a cuppa in the morning.

~ I promise you, you will get your moneys worth
