The Man In The Mirror

The Man In The Mirror
The man in the mirror is more than a reflection
The man you see should be a perplexion*
But it’s not a defection, more so an infection
These words first ring in your mind,
Then travel deep inside, in time.
And if a spot is missed it won’t pause, but rewind.
It s similar to smoke fumes; your body’s consumed
The man you hate is the man you love
Love overpowers hate said the man above
Love yourself; it’s a basic principle
If you don’t, be ashamed, your life is pitiful
Life without love is life lost
If life’s about money then how much does it cost?
Life’s values aren’t frozen they’re covered in frost
Easily removed like wiping dust off a moth
Don t like reality, I could tell you a myth
About Hercules, Zeus, or Pegasus
But what’s here is real, and not ridiculous
Society’s in fear, but there s no real danger
Telling kids to fear Arabs instead of fearing strangers
Brainwashing our future, it ll hurt ourselves
Racism’s still circulating, wasn’t left on the shelves
There s so much sorrow in a poor man s heart
But if he becomes rich the sorrow doesn’t part
The poor hate the rich because it s what they wanted to be
Children s dreams summarized: to be poverty free
Blinded in entirety from what they should see
Rich or poor, doesn’t change the possibility
Any day we could die, no telling when or why
Any day we could fold, no matter young or old
Whether jewelry of wood, silver, or gold
Regardless of it all, this world s so cold

No way out but the hope of a better place
But what if it s not there, there was no son s face
Just death and darkness, pitch-black space
It was all just a story, made to give hope
When really, more useful, would be a gun or a rope
For an early escape
But no just wait

If all we have is here, we should make the best
Live life to the fullest, pave a way for the rest
Now is the future, or is the future now?
Either way I understand exactly how
To expand minds, only to be contracted
To implant thoughts, only to be extracted
By the filters of society
It s too much, you deny it, but the thought stays quietly
You think in what ifs to keep your original stance
Afraid of accepting, of hell, and the devil s dance
Society s shadow contains you and you cannot creep
All those who challenged before now lay six feet deep
The ones who remain aren’t satisfied with now
Trying to change the world, but wondering how
Before an answer s discovered most get struck down,
Exiled by society, or run out of town
But inside of you there s one to be found
In the mirror I see the points of a crown
The man in the mirror is more than a reflection
The man is me, can you make the connection?

*perplexion- something that is puzzling or causes one to be perplexed
