Artist's Description

St John The Baptist, Smallhythe, Kent, UK.

In the middle ages Smallhythe was a bustling shipbuilding village although the settlement was fairly small and possessed a small chapel which burnt down along with most of the village in 1514 and the present church was built in 1516-17. In 1509 Archbishop Warham uniquely granted the village the right to elect its own priest subject only to his approval. This is the only settlement in England to have been granted this right and is one it held on to for 400years.

The church has a medieval screen and oak panelling which is believed to be the oldest recorded in existence.

For a small out of the way country church it certainly has a few claims to fame.

3 frame panorama each of 5 exposure HDR from single RAW file shot on a Canon EOS1000D and processed in PS8.
