Artist's Description

St Thomas Becket Church, Capel, Kent

Built as a chapel of ease to nearby Tudeley, the building was in the care of the Knights Hospitallers Of St John Of Jerusalem until they were dissolved in 1541. In 1986 it was vested into the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, a national charity.

First uncovered in 1868 and again in 1927 the wall paintings on the north wall are dated to 1200-1250 and contain various scenes from The Scriptures. The paintings above the pulpit are 15th century. There would have been paintings on the south wall too if it weren’t for the destruction of it in a fire in 1639.

3 frames each of 5 exposure HDR from single RAW file shot on a Canon EOS1000D and processed in PS8.
