Artist's Description

Now appearing as if in a meadow this headstone is at Chapel Bank, near Appledore, Kent where a number of headstones silently recall their incumbents.

Chapel Bank used to be the Isle Of Ebony and a church stood on this spot until during Elizabeth I’s reign it was strcuk by lightning. It was rebuilt as a chapel and survived until 1858 when it was moved stone by stone to the more accessable site at Reading Street at the bottom of the hill and rebuilt.

In 1919 this one read – Paul LYLE died — July 175 (1 or 4) aged 44 Susan his wife died April 1744. Sarah his second wife died 11 January 1780 aged 64.

5 exposure HDR from single RAW file shot on a Canon EOS1000D and processed in PS8.
