Artist's Description

When E W Pugin designed St Catherine’s Church for Lord Kingsdown only the best design details would work at the most expensive. The ethereal quality of the illumination of the chancel was achieved by deeply seating the window glass in deep splays and colouring the glass red. This was the most expensive glass that Victorians could by as the red colour was achieved by adding gold to the glass in the firing process.

Today its simplicity still inspires.
