Artist's Description

The Farnham (NY) Fire Department’s 1929 pumper, made by the Buffalo Fire Appliance Co. of Buffalo, NY, photographed 10 September 2011 at the annual Fall Festival of the Seneca Nation of Indians near Irving, NY.

The 1929 Buffalo fire engine was apparently a popular model, having been bought by various other fire departments such as Manassas, Virginia, and Hinsdale, Massachusetts. See generally The History of The Buffalo Fire Appliance Corporation by Peter D. West.

For comparison, see also the 1929 Pirsch fire engine that my wife Sheila photographed recently at Chautauqua, NY.
