New England Aster
The New England aster is native to New England and often seen along roadsides.
Symphyotrichum novae-angliae, commonly known as the New England aster, is native to many parts of North America, and is commonly found in moist areas throughout New England. This plant has showy purple flowers that bloom in late summer and early autumn. The flowers attract butterflies and make excellent cut flowers. New England asters grow 3 to 6 feet tall and prefer full sun and a moist, well-drained soil. Cut the plants to the ground after flowering to prevent naturalizing or if the foliage becomes unsightly.
