Artist's Description

Beautiful Dartmoor ponies graze amid the atmospheric ruined buildings next to the old granite quarry workings of Foggintor Quarry, near Merrivale between Tavistock and Princetown in Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England, UK. The ponies are semi feral and have high stamina to face the extremes of remote moorland weather. Over the centuries they were used as working ponies by tin miners and quarry workers. Remains of the old granite railway track and several large dressed stone granite corbels (apparently destined for London Bridge) are still on the moor from a cancelled Victorian era order.
