dream-locked in

there’s a piano calling
you somewhere too tender
for other edges too tender
for others to tiptoe around
what dozes inside you

there is the bird
of a startled cry
muffled by a bathtub
filling but forgotten,
you see jewels
swimming in a muddy pond
too deep and quick to grasp

forgotten but feeling
for what turns in the dark
off, flowers
pose for the overcast sky
seeps through the glass
as if watering
the flowers
with gray-

the overcast sky is a poster
that reminds you not to pull
that loose thread dangling so
seductively tempting you to
unweave, unravel
what you thought your life was for?

unveiling the eyes of why can’t you
when you are alone in the unread city
vased flowers kiss
your lonely motel eyes
while you sit there calmly
sipping cool questions
from a very nice glass such as,

how do you survive your life,
and what if you do?

what if no one ever kissed you again?
what if your lips never tasted lips again?
what stories would be left untold?
what secrets never revealed?

and where will you sleep
when you are locked out
of that apartment of skin?
with nothing to wear but
the cologne of your loneliness
walking around a vast empty parking lot
arguing with the warmth of another sunny day?

listen, there is a piano calling
somewhere for you
calling you away
from that desert of affection
and it says, taste me, taste me,
resuscitate me
back to life.
