Caught my Tui upside down showing off his hairdo ! Photograph taken from the back deck of our house, Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.
I believe this seemingly confirmed bachelor may have at last, after two years of watching him, taken a mate. Yesterday, just after I took this photograph I watched him and a smaller Tui on a tree branch to the rear of the cherry trees – he was clucking and singing to the smaller bird. He has never allowed another Tui to share his patch before so I shall continue to watch this romance with interest. Maybe his new streaky hairdo has done the trick or it could be his lovely singing !
