This small model was given to me by a friend. It is made of metal and has a desk stand. It depicts one of the famous Dam Buster Avro Lancasters of number 617 squadron led by Squadron Leader Guy Gibson.
The mission: On May 16 and 17th in 1943 was to bomb three hydro-electric dams in the Ruhr Valley in Germany using ’ bouncing bombs ’ invented by Sir Barnes Wallis. The dams were the Mohne and the Edersee which were breached and the Sorpe which sustained only minor damage.
The Dam Busters Lancasters were distinctive by the fact that they had their top machine gun turret removed to save weight – each aircraft carried only one very large ’ bouncing bomb ’ which resembled a very oversized 44 gallon oil drum.

Panasonic, LUMIX – GH2 at 42mm, X- PS 14×42 lens, 1/13, f/8, iso360, manual.
