For those people who have viewed my bird photographs with the blurred green background – well this is it in focus in my garden !
Our section adjoins the Opua State Forest – If you know where the survey pegs are otherwise it just looks like quite a few miles of bush and native forest.

This picture is dominated by Nikau Palms, New Zealand’s only species of native palm and gives the forest a very sub-tropical appearance. These grow quite tall and the native Wood Pigeons just love the berries. The tall thin trunks to the left belong to Mamaku, a very tall tree fern, the heads are out of vision. In the lower left corner is the iconic New Zealand Silver Fern. The rest, too numerous to mention – we have at least thirty or forty vartieties of native plants on our section alone. This is out of the 108 fern and fern allied species found in NZ.

Location: My garden and Opua State Forest, Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand.

Panasonic LUMIX GH2 at 108mm, 1/250, f/4.5, iso1250, manual.
