Artist's Description

Carcoar village railway station was opened in 1888, at a time when this was the next rural town beyond Bathurst (NSW, Australia). Thankfully over time it has been faithfully and lovingly restored to provide a focal point on the hill, overlooking the town.

New South Wales boasts many quaint rural gems when it comes to towns and villages – and Carcoar has to be up there with the best. There is a genuine feeling of walking into a movie set as you wander around the streets and lovingly preserved buildings.

Gazetted in 1839, the village has been classified by the National Trust, and boasts a population of only 400. Locals will proudly tell you it has the appearance and ambience of old England.

Well worth a visit if you are driving west … allow at least half a day if you want to do the area justice, as it has many craft / museum / nursery / pottery / scenic lures to tempt the visitor to linger longer!
