Artist's Description

Seen emitting a sea of multicolored lights as it lines up for an evening departure is a Ryanair liveried Boeing 737-800, which, even though the airline has a questionable reputation, does suit the aircraft really quite well.

Playing off the success of its older brother the Boeing 727, the Boeing 737 was designed originally to be a short range, low cost jet airliner, but has since become the most popular choice for budget and low cost airlines as well as major international carriers due to its simplistic design and easy use. Since first entering service with Lufthansa in 1968, nearly 7,800 of these aircraft have been built, and even with competition rising from the similarly designed Airbus A320 family, it remains a weapon of choice for carriers of all shapes and sizes, and is preparing to introduce another variant in its already extensive line of generations.

The Boeing 737-800 was developed in 1994 to see off both Boeing 727s and the elderly members of the 737 fleet, including the 737-100 and 737-200 series. Ryanair is Europe’s largest operator of the fleet, with 301 aircraft currently in service as well as another 175 on order which plan to replace the older 737-800s.
