Artist's Description

A really beautiful Catholic Catherdral found in San Luis, Colorado, which holds the distinction of being the oldest town in the whole state of Colorado, being founded in 1850. I found it very surprising that the oldest town in the whole state was founded so long after European colonialization of the New World, but in reading some of the historical information around the area, it seems the Utes were such great horsemen, they actually kept the Europeans out of their lands until the mid 1800s.San Luis was settled by people who moved up from Taos. The Church, despite looking like it might have come from that period, we found was actually built about 15 years ago. If you are driving through town, because it sits high on a hill overlooking the town. At the crossroads, if you don’t mind climbing a hill, you can follow a path to the top of the hill, wander a wonderful garden full of statues called “The Stations of the Cross” which represents different scenes from the Crucifixion of Christ. If you are anywhere near the Taos. New Mexico, it is worth the drive to go see this wonderful religious site. The church is led by a young priest and the congregation has no problem with visitors of any faith joining them for services.
