Most of us are Slaves

Human are we?
what does this mean?
Perhaps an inability to learn,
to find a voice.
To trudge the time worn highway
circular,
from somewhere to nowhere
time and time again.
Services of incarceration,
slaves of out -moded systems,
to keep a single voice,
alone and powerless,
doffing our caps to confidence
and loud proclamations,
to those with the biggest boots
with access to that Idol,
green-backed or golden,
that enslaves the cowered masses.
Awed by the power of the tune
forgetting that a chorus
is stronger than a single voice
pitching, shattering
the glass of illusion
that only having more of everything
has the power to set you free.
A few stand up , are counted
endure the whip, the chains
expose the naked truth.
Alone this path is painful
arduous yet brave.
The money men may listen
when the masses’ interest is aroused,
pay us with lip service,
give a little comforter perhaps
enough to turn our tethers invisible
so we believe we are free,
and keep our voices silent
working for the dollars good.
After all we are only human
doing what we have always done.
Conforming to the systems
through histories’ rises and fall.
Most of us are human
Deafened time and time again
to the music that isFreedom’s call.

Most of us are Slaves
