I begin with black

I begin with black

The master of all dark

or somber

weight

negative candor.

next red

a hot little number

the passionate rumba

or indeed temper

the colour of pepper.

my blue is tears

hidden in a bedroom

can be concealed

from others

undercover

hope springs, is yellow

tinkerling laughter

sun on the pillow

warm and comfortable

white is the blank page

the fresh sheets

laundered

unadulterated

no stains.

Life is a palette

thickening with use

you will find all the colours there

all shades, all hues

and we?

we are the canvas

never finished

until we are done

old masters or seascapes

abstraction

or surreal

painted one by one

I begin with black
