6/9/11 – TOP TEN WINNER in the Stream or Stream Crossing in MAY challenge hosted by the Streams & Stream Crossings group.
The Old Steel Bridge, taken May 26, 2011, this time at high water. This is the old crossing of the Flathead River in Columbia Falls, Montana. You can see the river gauge to the right of the bridge on the far side of the river. The river is at the threat level right now. The bottom prong is the flood level. With two more days of rain, the river is higher tonight and we still have a few more days of rain forecast.
We are currently under a flood watch. The Flathead already flooded 20 homes yesterday, down river at Evergreen. The state has sent sandbags for people to pick up and fill for use on the Flathead and Stillwater Rivers. The Stillwater has already flooded one home, about 8 blocks from where we live.
My biggest worry is that Jimmy lives on the bottom floor of an apartment building near the spot where I was standing when I took this picture.
Compare the river level here with “The Old Steel Bridge”, which I uploaded before this one. I took the other photo 2 weeks ago:*
