This is the Old Steel Bridge in Columbia Falls, Montana (USA). It was built in the 1920’s to connect the people on the east side of the Flathead River with the rest of the valley. My husband tells me that the bridge used to be barn red.

I didn’t realize until I looked at the photos on my computer that there was a little tree growing on the left side of the bridge. This bridge is standing several feet above the river. There is no ground underneath it. This shows the resiliency that was given to the things of the natural world, allowing them to recover from almost anything and to adapt to different circumstances.

Jimmy says this reminds him of how the phoenix would rise out of its own ashes. This wooden planking is the ground from which the sapling is growing.
