Artist's Description

We spent our 4th of July in the dam town of Hungry Horse, Montana, which is always like being in a battle. The whole town gathers along the highway that goes through the middle of the town to shoot off their fireworks and firecrackers, with little regard to safety. It’s a glorious anarchy of color and sound. You can see the shells exploding over the gas station. Just to the right (outside the picture) was the stand that sold most of the fireworks.

It was a little more subdued this year due to the economic crisis and the fact that the sale of sparklers have been illegalized here. People used to tape several packs of them together to make sparkler bombs. We also noticed that nobody lit off the very expensive Black Cat firecracker rolls this year.

I had some photos that showed many more of the fireworks going off at once, but I liked the look of the reflections on the cars in this one, and the focus being on the danger of the shells exploding right on the highway, as cars are driving through. Highway 2 is the interstate highway that tourists take to go tto Glacier National Park or over Marias Pass to the east side of the Rockies.

Please look at this FULL VIEW. There are details in this that cannot be seen in the preview image. Thanks for looking!

I’m uploading this for the Danger Ahead Challenge, hosted by the Mood & Ambience group.
