Icefields Parkway and Big Balls

Back in 2007, a good mate and I spent just over 3 weeks on a road trip around the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We were on a fairly large powder search. These 3 weeks were on the back of 2 weeks in Colorado’s Summit County – Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone etc, which was on the back of 2 weeks already spent in Japan’s Hakuba Valley Alps. Quite an ambitious and awesome trip I must say. Photo’s from this holiday can be found scattered throughout my portfolio if one cares to have a look.
During our Canadian leg of the holiday, we drove down from Calgary to the southern British Columbia mountains, Red Mountain & Whitewater, up through the Kootnay and Purcell Mountains to Revelstoke, through the Rockies to Golden and Mt. Kicking Horse. We sort of steered clear of the massive international resorts of Big White, Silverstar, Whistler etc, preffering to find more out of the way places. Of course, no trip to this part of the world should miss out on visiting the superbly scenic area of Banff and Lake Loise.

Between Banff and Jasper is one of the most scenic drives in the world, The Icefields Parkway, around 200 kilometers of the most majestic mountain scenery.

After a couple days riding Jaspers Marmot Basin, it was a rather large trip heading all the way south as Fernie was also high on the list of mountains still to ride..Last on the list was the relatively unknown Castle Mountain before heading back up to Calgary and homeward bound.

On the drive back through the Iceway, we stopped here and there to admire the fantastic scenery. One spot pictured below looked awesome with the iceflow coming off the mountain. It wasn’t untill I zoomed out with my 18-200 lens, when I noticed these ice climbers scaling this wall.
In this first shot, you can see 2 tiny dots around the middle of the photo.

The shots below show these fella’s a bit clearer…Quite extreme I think..They certainly have some fairly hefty testicals to carry around, that’s for sure…!!
