Artist's Description

This a view from Georges Head, Mosman of Sydney Harbour Heads. Early governments of the colony were fearful of invasion, particularly from Russia (believe it or not) so they built many cannon fortifications along the harbour to attack any enemy vessels. None of the guns were fired in anger as it was considered later more efficient to lay mines.
Georges Head was one such fortification as it commands a 180 degree vision of the harbour, from Manly to the City. It is now a favourite spot for weddings.
