Artist's Description

This figure drawing piece was created with a variety of mediums on newsprint. I initially used a soft lead pencil and an ebony to sketch the form, focusing on the profile of the subject. Later I used a white charcoal to add some highlighted areas, and then I used a select palette of pastel to shade and color the piece. I also used a few colored pencils, layering color over the soft pastel areas. I really enjoy the expressive quality and the movement of the lighting upon the female form. I think that I captured the likeness of the model, using delicate, refined precision in some areas, as well as adding my own loose style in other areas. The original dimensions of the work are 18in. X 12in. It was produced in 2008.
