Artist's Description

This three image series displays the etching process. It was the first metal plate that I had ever produced. I recently found the initial sketch that I had used to create the plate, and I had only one remaining print left, so I decided to analogue the entire work as a series-

The first image is the pencil drawing which I painted with a select palette of acrylic paints. The drawing was produced one “Sunday Afternoon” and it depicts a good friend (that I had in middle school) sitting in a recliner.

The second image is the actual metal plate. It has black and sepia ink still lingering in the etched lines. I accented a few selective highlights with white acrylic paint for an enhanced affect.

The third image is the last actual print that I had produced with the plate (in an edition of only three prints). It was created with a sepia ink on a heavyweight piece of off-white paper. I later painted the image with acrylics (along with the drawing and plate) creating a monoprint from the work.

The original dimensions of the plate are 7in. X 5in. The initial drawing, metal plate, and print were all produced when I was in the ninth grade, in 1997. The collection of the series and painting process was completed in 2008.
