Artist's Description

This work was created with a variety of mediums upon a an old, sanded piece of wood. it’s original dimensions are 29.5in X 18in.
The initial board was used as a backdrop to spray paint the mattes of other works that I had been framing. So this painting was “initiated” during the the “completion” of many other works of my art. It has my original photos which were only altered with a single cut to separate positive and negative subjects, allowing for the viewer to relocate the images across the painting. An old, small frame was disassembled and stretched into the corners of the work. A limited palette of acrylics was used to abstractly add to the geometrical outlined areas of the spray paints. Gesso was used for texture in certain parts. I also used staples as a real metallic media to connect the divisions of color. It also has a chain element which is nailed and draped upon it. The painting contains drips of wood glue, (for enhanced reflective and textural quality) and drips and splatters of both black india ink and red ink. The inks would almost naturally find pre-existing crevices and surfaces to flow within. It was completed in 2008.
