Artist's Description

This piece was created with acrylics on a gessoed board. The board is framed behind and the wooden, wing shaped panels are secured to it. I also used metallic spray paints with acrylics (gold and bronze) to add a reflective quality to enhance the work. The wings work on two different levels: they can be viewed as the wings of the separate, smaller figures; or they can be viewed as the wings of the larger, predominant image (myself). They convey a desire for being pure of heart and seeking moral compassion. The lighting of the landscape in the background helps to balance the forms and give them an inspiring ambiance. It is a self-portrait piece and the female and male figures on my shoulders represent my parents. A tribute to life and my Earthly givers, if you will. I enjoy the symbiotic lines of the figures which also frame in the portrait of myself. The dimensions of the original work are 26in. (in height) X 38in. (from wing to wing). It was constucted and painted over a time period of about two years, and was completed in 2006.
