Artist's Description

This is a painting in oils that is reworked from an actual figure study. The line and form is modified to capture a different feeling and to express a more provocative image. Some areas are treated in flat shapes and some areas are shaded to created a variety of depth. I enjoy the smoother textures and reflective surfaces of the paint which contrast some of the more heavily textured shapes. Overall, it has a curious quality to it which may resemble works of Braque and Picasso, but ultimately was created to find a greater and more interesting spatial relationship of the womanly figure. My favorite quality of the piece is that the woman’s head is placed upside-down and her arm wraps around and under it, drawing more emphasis to this area.
